Summer 23

I’ve just received my Summer 23 fragrance, which is my first from Ffern.  Tried the tester and instantly my partner stated “Oh that’s lovely”. I can’t put it in to words how this fragrance gives off a lovely smell! I will be keeping this and look forward to the next fragrance. 

This fragrance is unique and actually mixes so well with the time of year and gives you a bit of a euphoric lift.

I have just received the Summer 23 fragrance from Ffern, and after opening the delivery and the poster envelope attached inside, I had a great feeling.

Before opening the envelope, I opened the trial as usual, and as the fragrance emanated, I felt a very familiar sensation. I then opened the envelope to learn more about the fragrance's inspiration and notes, and I suddenly understood where that familiar feeling had come from. As a Chinese born and bred in China, the scent of osmanthus has accompanied me through every autumn (every September, the Chinese osmanthus comes into flower). Autumn in northern China is recognised as a great climate; when the sky is high, there are few clouds, the summer heat has passed, the cool autumn breeze starts to appear, and people are in an unbelievable mood. It is one of the rare good days of the year.

Because the osmanthus flowering season is in early autumn, it has accompanied me through many significant moments, such as countless promotions, exams and countless moves from one stage of life to another. It grew in the garden of my primary school, by the playground of my secondary school and under the dormitory building of my university, and it was always present in my life.

As I turn the letter over to the reverse side, familiar memories strike again. I studied Chinese calligraphy for over ten years, and the beautiful black colour of Chinese ink has been in my life since I was ten. Osmanthus flowers, writing brush and ink, beautiful handwriting and Guzheng music - these are my happy memories of each autumn. I was astonished that the fragrance I received this time contained so many familiar elements, as if every autumn of my last ten years in this little box.

I have not been back to China for two years since I came to study in the UK, and I have missed two Chinese autumns filled with the scent of osmanthus. Thank you, Ffern and artist Cici, you have given me the autumn I missed. At the same time, I am delighted to see the art of British fragrance combined with Chinese culture, the two colliding to produce a new and eye-catching artistic trend.

I am very much looking forward to Ffern's next fragrance creations.

Hello, I received my summer fragrance, I take great pleasure in being a part of your brand ledger. I saw on one of your posts you wanted feedback on the notes, I am enamored by the opening citrus notes. The fresh spritz wakes up on the skin very remonstrance of summertime in Capri with hints of a freshly zested lemon and orange. I personally have gotten into gin more specifically Japanese botanical gin and I would suggest looking into yuzu it encapsulates memories of both citrus notes and a light fruitful floral.

I did not pick up on the hay however, I live in Kansas therefore I have no qualms with that. It would’ve been nice to have ginger in it seeing the response from the spring fragrance, but I completely understand the time it takes to curate a balanced sense. I do enjoy the spicy note, it added a bold note to balance the citrus for the customers, allowing all genders to feel included. The peppery notes that came through are beautiful, it lays perfectly with the summertime citrus that I love. I am not a huge fan of the musk for summer, I feel as though it darkens the summertime emotions it is supposed to enhance. It reminds me of the Mason Margiela by the fireplace; the oaky burn is reminiscent of summers by the campfire but it personally adds a depth at the base that I think should be lighter and more spice.

The fact that the perfume doesn’t have a powdery note in it is amazing and I would suggest not adding it, it reminds me of embalmed dead bodies (the morgue uses it to cover the smell) as well as old people who don’t shower and just use powder and a horrid floral to cover the smell. This is by far my favorite scent I have tried and I am a huge fragrance girly, it encapsulates everything I’ve wanted without being sweet or artificial smelling, I am so happy to finally wear a fragrance that is what I have been looking for, for years have been on the hunt and I’m so elated to have something so beautifully created. I am a huge fan of the ffern brand, the mission, and the fragrance produced. I am so grateful to be on the ledger and excited to try the next seasonal product. I connect fragrances to memories and this one invoked the best memories, thank you for creating such a unique experience with this summertime drop. I look forward to what you are going to produce next!

I wanted to write and say I’ve just received my Ffern parcel today and it is truly lovely. I was looking for a new fragrance for the summer and this is perfect - excellently blended, seasonal, and surprising. I haven’t smelt a fragrance quite like this one before and I’m very pleased with its longevity and the way it matures on the skin. The extras in the parcel are wonderful as well — I love that Ffern supports other local companies and talks about the artists they feature on their packaging. Many companies don’t do this, and it’s a testament to your values that you do.

I have one quick question regarding addresses. I notice my ledger spot is listed as a US ledger spot, but in September I will be moving to England. Can I still maintain my spot in the ledger even if I won’t be in the US anymore?

I received my Ffern shipment the day before the summer solstice. I am amazed at your ability to time its arrival so perfectly. I am new to the registry and was excited to receive my olfactory adventure. 

You see, I am a lifelong aficionado of romanticism, story. It does not matter the type of story…as long as it’s luscious, captivating, a bit enigmatic…and rich with the natural magic within life.

I am smitten with the story for Ffern Summer Solstice 23.  Every bit of it….does indeed…feel like the last, long days of summer.  At 52, it had the ability to create mental time travel. It evokes the times when I was young (about 12-15years old, I’d say)…the angst of a country girl wanting more, dreams of romance…moods of wanting to be older, paralleled with never wanting to grow up…the feeling of, as you perfectly describe…”the ache of the end of the season.” 

As an adult, I wear fragrance to feel…and to quietly, but surely, share that feeling with others. A new perfume is an intimate moment for me. When a new scent, comes into my life… I wear it for the first time, completely nude… and second, time, when I sleep.  This statement is not made as a need to be provocative…it is simply, the truth. 

Wearing the fragrance while au natural, allows my mind to strip away all the superfluous distraction of clothing. It allows me to better discern how the perfume makes me feel…what it invokes. 

Wearing the fragrance to bed, allows my mind to conspire with my feelings about the fragrance, to embed itself into my subconscious through dreams. 

Today, I decided to wear Ffern Summer solstice, 23 with a long, flowing, cotton dress as I took a walk through the grounds of our natural property….and there it was again….that gorgeous bit of hay, sneaking out, between citrus and wood. Suddenly, I was 13, standing in our barn…wistfully daydreaming about a boy… I felt completely one with nature…my scent, making no notice of itself, to the natural around me…. but, aligning with it.  To become, the last, long days of summer. 

Magic…pure natural magic.  That is what this amalgamation of scents is.  Add to all of this… a lovely diffusion stone, made by hands.  A description of the perfume, itself. Lovely art by Cici Lee. A special tea blend …and well stylized videos and music. 

This, my friend, is not just a purchase…it is an experience.

My love letter to Ffern: 

This is a big deal to me.. I received my Summer edition of Ffern perfume and I am in love with this deep and delicate, floral and forest scent. I have always wanted a signature scent. My mom had Chanel number 5 and I wanted my own.  I had a fling with Opium in my 20's, but one of us changed and I left.. Perfumes that smell lovely on others have never smelled good on me and what smells good in a sample would change with my chemistry once I had it on and I would end up disappointed. I am sensitive to some stabilizers that are put in perfumes and cannot wear them, they smell like eucalyptus and mold to me! Even scents that claimed to be all natural would be impossible to wear. I have literally searched for decades and thought I tried everything.  Enter Ffern. It has no trace of anything but lovely scent. It is unique and complex and I can't get enough of it It makes the day special.  Just wanted to say thank you! I feel lucky to be on the register.

I have only just given this to my wife as an anniversary present. She absolutely loves it, as do I.

Light notes overall, a very subtle but gorgeous smell. The Cedar and Hay really come through, especially the Cedar which I just love, one of my favourite smells!!! The citrus notes hit well, not too overpowering with a touch of rose, just beautiful.

I thought the eco-friendly packaging was totally fantastic, and the addition of the artwork and stone diffuser (I think it was that... could be wrong!) was all super and made for an exciting box-opening experience.

Haven't tried the tea yet, but also another really nice touch.

For perspective, you are reading the thoughts of a huge fan of sustainable luxury (or luxurious sustainability). I worked for Stella McCartney in her early start-up days for the short while I lived in London and have been a convert since then. 

A tad more name-dropping: I personally know the woman who started a new fragrance line, Cultus Artem.

And I Love Ffern The Most! 

Never have I seen a company do more in its packaging to be carbon neutral than Ffern. 

There was a wet spot on one part of the cardboard tube packaging; but never mind! It quickly dried up and the cardboard held up. 

I got so into your campaign! I listened to the podcast with the new almanac writer/reader. It made my spirit sing! Last year, I got a certificate in Permaculture Design with Social System’s Design, so to hear such intimacy and emphasis on native connection with Earth and her seasons was illuminating, and also calming. 

To the silage. It’s wonderful. It is balanced and nuanced and earthy and sweet, just the best!

I’ve tried a lot of perfumes over the years, but Ffern has by far been my favourite one. Their Summer ‘23 scent was amazing. 12/10! I’ve had so many people compliment me and ask where I got it. Highly recommend it!

A lovely & unique concept - I love everything about Ffern. The Summer 2023 perfume is delightful and the little touches like a summer tea blend and a perfume disc makes receiving the seasonal box a joy. The podcasts are best enjoyed in a peaceful setting with a cup of the summer tea - in a China cup of course.

Thank goodness I found Ffern the whole experience from start to finish was the best from being put onto the ledger to the arrival of the package and what a package the little extras from the teas to the info on the fragrance to the terracotta stone - I can't wait for the next fragrance if its as gorgeous as Summer 23 it's going to be amazing just like my whole experience with Ffern.
